Genesee County United Way's fund raising goal for 2011 is $2.8 million and after a couple of big donations today, they're a little closer.
The GM Foundation presented a check for $93,000 followed by the UAW donating $500,000 to the organization.
"It's huge," said Chris Wise from the Genesee County United Way, and continued, "for the GM Foundation and for the UAW employees to raise that kind of money, it's a shot in the arm to get to the goal we need to get to."
All the money donated by the UAW came from the people who work in the plants in Genesee County.
"Our members are very, very giving. Always have been, always will be, we care about the community," Chairman Barry Campbell of UAW Local 598. "I know this donation will touch a lot of lives and that's what we want, that's what we want here in Flint."
There's still two months left in the 2011 United Way Campaign and with today's donations, they think their goal is within reach.
