NextEra Energy
BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
Officials in one Bay County community rejected a special use permit request that would have brought nine wind turbines to the area.
Merritt Township residents packed the township hall late Tuesday night for the long-awaited decision on NextEra Energy's request.
The nine turbines from the Florida-based company would have been placed on property leased by homeowners. Several dozen residents voiced their opinion before the commission made their decision.
The Saginaw News reported the commission did agree to allow other components of the utility grid wind energy system: an anemometer, a substation and related underground electrical facilitates.
