FRANKENMUTH TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -
Four employees of a famous Michigan restaurant are accused of embezzling money.
Police tell TV5 the employees stole money from Zehnder's as they rang up sales.
Detectives are still working to determine how much money could be involved. They say the alleged crime took place over a couple of months. Administrative staff at Zehnder's went to police when they noticed money coming in did not match actual sales.
Police said the alleged fraud has to do with cash and does not impact customers.
"So the customer, the patron was not defrauded, they had no idea of the fraud. The money was defrauded from Zehnder's as it was being rang up," said Frankenmuth Police Chief Donald Mawer.
The prosecutor's office will review the case to determine if formal charges will be filed.
"It's traumatic for them because they're a very good corporation to work for. They help people out, they help this community out tremendously and they do diligence in their background investigation. And to have a number of individuals turn on you after you've given them jobs and a good place to work must be heart-wrenching for them," said Mawer.
