Police: Teen accidentally shot self in head

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Saginaw police say a teen accidentally shot and killed himself while handling a handgun.

Officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Binscarth in Saginaw at about 1:30 a.m. Saturday.

Police say when officers arrived they found 17-year-old De'ondre Cotton with an apparent gunshot wound to his head. MMR ambulance personnel transported Cotton to Covenant Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition.

Police said detectives conducted an investigation and it was determined that Cotton had accidentally shot himself while handling a handgun. He died Monday morning from his wounds.

No other details were released.
