BAY CITY, Mich. (AP) - A woman is facing charges after police say she went into a stranger's Bay City home while drunk and tried to walk off with two young children.
The Bay City Times reports Kristine A. Smith is free on bond and only may leave her home to attend court hearings, meet with her attorney, work and take alcohol tests. Smith is charged with first-degree home invasion and two counts related to an attempted kidnapping.
Police say a man awoke about 3 a.m. on Dec. 31 to find Smith holding the hands of 2 of his daughters, ages 3 and 4, and trying to lead them out of the home.
Defense lawyer Jason P. Gower says Smith maintains someone let her into the house. She returns to court March 30.
