Man accused of molesting daughter claims to be "prophet of God" - WNEM TV 5

Attorney: Daniel Hall claims to be "prophet of God"

A 25-year-old Mid-Michigan man accused of sexually assaulting his own infant daughter while his wife took photos went before a judge Tuesday.

Daniel Hall is facing first-degree criminal sexual assault and child pornography charges.

A previous forensic evaluation found Hall competent to stand trial, but his attorney contested that decision and requested that the court allow an independent evaluation to take place.

Today, Genesee District Judge Christopher Odette agreed to an independent mental evaluation for Hall.

Hall's attorney told Judge Odette that Hall believes he is a "prophet of God," during the hearing. He said Hall believes he is in jail for religious purposes.

Officials say they believe that Hall sexually assaulted the infant while his wife, 26-year-old Alisha Hall, took pictures. The child was 6 months old when the alleged abuse took place.

Mount Morris police Chief Keith Becker told TV5 an investigation that began in Saginaw County last year led to police finding hundreds of child pornography images on computers at the couple's Mount Morris home.

Becker says 13 images showed Daniel engaging in sexual acts with the infant.

The police investigation began after a tip from a Birch Run couple.

Hall, along with his wife Alisha, each face up to life in prison. They are scheduled back in court April 17.
