FLINT, MI (WNEM) -
A Michigan State Police trooper was shot outside a convenience store in downtown Flint early Wednesday morning.
It happened around 12:30 a.m. outside Brothers Food Store on Saginaw Street near Stewart Avenue.
Police say troopers were dispatched to the area for reports of a fight.
According to a news release, troopers made contact with one of the subjects, while a second subject fled on foot with the trooper in pursuit. During the chase, the pursuing trooper was shot.
The gunman ran into a wooded area, where he was later apprehended. The firearm used in the shooting was recovered, police said.
The trooper, an 11-year-veteran, was shot in the abdomen and was taken to a Flint area hospital. He was released from the hospital a few hours later and is expected to make a full recovery.
The social media group Flint Police Operations released scanner traffic from the shooting. "Shots fired, shots fired. I need an ambulance, I've been shot," the trooper says on the audio.
