Lt. Gov. Calley among CMU commencement speakers

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. (AP) - Lt. Gov. Brian Calley is among the speakers set for Central Michigan University's commencement events next month.

The Mount Pleasant school says more than 3,500 spring graduates are expected to participate in four commencement ceremonies on May 4 and 5.

Calley is scheduled to be the keynote speaker during a 1 p.m. ceremony on May 5. He'll also receive a Doctor of Public Service honorary degree. 

At the 4 p.m. doctoral ceremony Friday, May 4, Van Andel Education Institute Director Steven Triezenberg will speak to graduates. He specializes in the field of biochemistry and molecular biology, and his work in gene expression has benefited the study of both science and medicine. Triezenberg will receive a doctor of science honorary degree.
At the 9 a.m. undergraduate ceremony Saturday, May 5, Merrill Lynch Wealth Management Advisor John Kulhavi, a prominent business, military and community leader, will address the audience. A 1965 CMU alumnus and former member and chairman of the board of trustees, Kulhavi is a member of Merrill Lynch's "$5 Million Club" and ranks in the top one percent of the firm's financial advisers. He will receive a doctor of commercial science honorary degree.
University of California San Diego Professor Joseph Wang will speak at the 5 p.m. ceremony. Wang is a professor of nanoengineering and a skilled and recognized researcher in many areas of nanobioelectronics. He has authored more than 850 research papers, 10 books and 35 chapters and has been awarded 12 patents. Wang will receive a doctor of science honorary degree.
