Former Saginaw Spirit forward Josh Shalla has carved his name in the franchise's record books as the team's most prolific scorer and now he is about to ply his trade in the American Hockey League.
The Whitby Ontario, native, who is the Spirit's all-time single season and career goal scoring leader, has signed an amateur tryout with the Milwaukee Admirals, the top affiliate of the National Hockey League's Nashville Predators.
Shalla is slated to begin his professional career on Friday, April 20 as the Admirals will open a first round AHL playoff series with the Abbotsford Heat, which serves as the primary affiliate of the NHL's Calgary Flames.
Earlier this season, Shalla became the Spirit's all time regular season goal leader when he recorded his 119th tally in a game against the Windsor Spitfires on March 16.
Shalla, who was selected by Nashville in the fourth round of last year's NHL Draft, also established the franchise's single season goal scoring record with 47 in the 2010-11 OHL season.
