BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -
Michigan's smoking ban has been in place for two years, but some lawmakers are looking to change it. Debate surrounding the ban continues and time hasn't toned it down.
"I believe everybody has the right to smoke if they want to, but I just don't want it around myself," said Dee Burzynski.
Burzynski was enjoying lunch at Mulligan's Pub in Bay City and she wants the smoke-free atmosphere to stay that way.
One lawmaker recently introduced a proposal to allow smoking at fundraisers. A senate bill would also allow smoking in enclosed separate rooms and outdoor patios.
Restaurant and bar owner Rick Revette said even if the law changes, he won't.
"Personally, I would not allow smoking in my establishments, but for the bar owner that doesn't serve a lot of food and they get a lot of smokers in their establishment, I'm sure that's a good compromise for them," said Revette, owner of Mulligan's Pub and Gatsby's.
Business owners are just as divided as their customers.
"I think it will help businesses and it's a good compromise," said Tim Socier, owner of Timothy's Fine Cigars.
