6-year-old credited with saving mom’s life

SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A quick-thinking 6-year-old boy is being credited with saving his mom's life after she slipped from a ladder and fell unconscious on the floor.

Now she's thanking her son Braden for saving her life.

On a 911 tape obtained by TV5, a boy can be heard telling the operator that "my mom fell down the ladder and she broke her head open."

"It was very scary," said Judy Bila as she describes what was going through her mind last Saturday.

Bila was doing some spring cleaning at home when she somehow fell off a 10-foot ladder and struck her head and knocked herself semi-unconscious. While she's on the ground with her head split open, Braden ran to get a towel to try and stop the bleeding.

Thankfully at her side, she said, was her cell phone. Bila said he grabbed it, called her husband, Braden's father, and then made another call.

"I thought, ‘I gotta call 911,'" Braden told TV5 reporter Brian Wood.

And after doing so, paramedics arrived at the scene and took Bila to the hospital where she received seven stitches in her head.

"I don't know what I would have done without him, he's my little hero," Bila said.
