ABERDEEN, Miss. (AP) - An attorney is asking for a delay in the trial of a Michigan man accused of failing to register as a sex offender in Mississippi.
Court records say Maurice Lionel Roper was convicted for criminal sexual conduct and home invasion in Genesee County, Mich., in 2003.
He was arrested March 2 in Lee County, Miss., and charged with failing to register. He has pleaded not guilty. His trial is set for March 21 in U.S. District Court in Aberdeen.
The attorney says he needs more time to prepare due to the volume of information prosecutors have provided in the case.
