ISABELLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

The City of Mt. Pleasant is set to begin its first stage of the redevelopment of more than 300 acres of land purchased from the state of Michigan in 2011, known to most residents as the former home of the Mt. Pleasant Regional Center.

As the first stage of redevelopment, city officials elected to remarket and repurpose remaining machinery, equipment and other assets through online auctions utilizing Orbitbid.com.

The online auction process is scheduled to begin May 14 and continue through the first week in June. Specific areas of the property, bordered by Pickard Street and Bamber, Crawford and River roads, will be open for the public to preview auction items on May 14 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Preview times also will continue on May 15 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The first of the featured online auctions will be held May 15 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Auction highlights include: generators; commercial restaurant equipment; medical, dental and therapeutic equipment; street lights; aluminum and composite fencing; office equipment and supplies; maintenance and shop supplies and more.

Staff will be on site with free wireless internet access to assist in bidding if needed.

A second online auction, scheduled for June 5, will include other items such as industrial laundry equipment, metalworking and support equipment, more generators and utility equipment.

A sealed bid offering of the boilers and related equipment is scheduled to end on May 21.

The Mt. Pleasant Center property consists of 27 buildings totaling more than 500,000 square feet of space, along with a road network, power plant and tunnels.

Some of the buildings are in extreme disrepair, and several have been closed or vacant for decades. Two parcels of the property are owned by the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe.
