Former Saginaw High School standout and Detroit Lions wide receiver Charles Rogers appeared in a Saginaw County courtroom for a pre-trial hearing Wednesday.

Rogers, 30, who is accused of threatening to kill his mother, appeared before Saginaw County District Judge A.T. Frank at 9:45 a.m.

Rogers also filled out paperwork that lists out his assets and debts, and TV5's Craig McMorris reports that he may qualify for a court-appointed attorney.

The court hearing was rescheduled to today after Rogers showed up four hours late for a May 8 hearing.

Rogers, who is charged with making a malicious phone call and conspiring with his uncle, Ronie Rogers, is also facing charges of possession of marijuana, open alcohol in a motor vehicle and operating on a suspended or revoked license in a unrelated case.

For a previous news story, TV5 obtained a police report about the alleged threat to his mother. The report documents a string of phone calls from Rogers and his uncle. The two left several messages with Rogers's mother.

According to the report, Rogers demanded $100,000 from her. The report states Rogers left a message threatening to "blow her mouth out." He went on to say he has no problem doing time.

Rogers' mother sat near her son in court on Wednesday and declined to speak with TV5 about the charges. All of the charges Rogers faces are misdemeanors.

Rogers played college football at Michigan State University and was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2003 NFL Draft.
