SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -
Authorities say one man was killed and another person was injured during a home invasion Wednesday morning in Saginaw Township.
The deceased is identified as 36-year-old Michael Kuhlman. A 43-year-old man police have not yet identified was injured.
It happened at about 1 a.m. in the 2000 block of Luella Drive, northeast of Hemmeter and Weiss roads.
Saginaw Township police say occupants in the residence told officers that multiple masked suspects entered the home and fired shots. Two shooting victims were located at the scene, police said.
Police later confirmed that Kuhlman died as a result of his injuries. Police did not release the condition of the other shooting victim.
There were about eight people inside the home at the time of the shooting. Neighbors say they've noticed the home is usually packed with people on Tuesday nights.
Police told TV5's Jessica Maki that officers are working with Saginaw County prosecutor Michael D. Thomas to obtain search warrants to search vehicles parked outside the crime scene.
The suspects were last seen running south toward Weiss Road, police said. A police K9 Unit was called to the scene, but was unable to track the suspects. Police said they believe the suspects got into a car at some point after fleeing the scene.
Detectives say they are looking into every possible motive, and they can't rule out the card game as a factor in the shooting.
"I really don't know yet at this point, but where there's gambling, games, there's money," said Saginaw Township Police Lt. Gary Grauf.
No one is in custody and police don't have a good description of the suspects.
A nearby home may have also been struck by stray bullets during the shooting. The Michigan State Police Crime Lab Unit assisted in the investigation.
People in the neighborhood say the incident is something that just doesn't happen here. "[It's not] supposed too, but I guess nobody is immune to it," said neighbor Jim Kessler.
