BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A 63-year-old man has died following an ultra-light plane crash in Bay County early Wednesday morning.

It happened at about 6 a.m. in a field near the Gross Airport in Pinconning Township.

Sheriff John Miller says the aircraft may have experienced engine failure shortly after takeoff, as it lost power near Interstate 75.

Paul Rogers, of Bay City, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities closed 7 Mile between Pinconning and Neuman while crews worked to clear the wreckage.

The incident is under investigation.
