Rare astronomy event can be viewed at Flint planetarium

FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

On June 5, 2012 the planet Venus will make its final trek across the face of the Sun as seen from Earth until the year 2117. It's known as a transit of Venus, and  is among the rarest of predictable astronomical phenomena.

The University of Michigan-Flint Department of Physics and Longway Planetarium  are teaming up to provide a great way to witness the event. From 4 to 9:30 p.m. on June 5 special solar telescopes will be set up to safely view Venus passing directly between the Earth and Sun. The telescopes will be at Bicentennial Park in Grand Blanc.  This "open house" event is free to the public, but is dependant on weather conditions.
