SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
NFL football player and Saginaw native LaMarr Woodley is back in town. The Steelers' linebacker hosted his annual football camp for kids.
Organizers say about 450 kids showed up for a day of football and fun. Other pro football players joined in too, including Marshawn Lynch, Steve Breaston and Troy Smith.
"Well I think it's pretty cool he doesn't forget about the community. He comes back and shows everybody so he's pretty cool," said participant Eddie Dunn.
Woodley says kids need positive role models and something to keep them busy. This week two kids were shot in Saginaw, 12-year-old T.J. Steward died from his injuries. Friday night a 14-year-old was shot and killed in Flint.
"Definitely see a young kid lose their life is unfortunate, we have to find ways to keep these kids motivated and busy," said Woodley.
It was the fifth year for Woodley's camp and it's free for the kids.
