Tuesday is a big day several broadcast companies, including Meredith Corporation, the parent company of WNEM TV5.
Today is the national launch for a new iPad app called "Connect TV."
It enables users to enjoy a "second screen" experience while they're watching their favorite TV programs. It sends out a signal that enables your iPad to automatically determine what program you're watching.
Users will be able to interact with other people watching the same program in a realtime online chat room. They will also get customized content related to the program they're watching, that includes sporting events, prime time programming, your favorite syndicated shows and even newscasts.
Several major markets are launching today. WNEM TV5 viewers will have the opportunity to use Connect TV starting in August.
