TUSCOLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
Property owners in Denmark Township will pay $16,900 a piece to tap into a new water system, with an optional payment plan of $825 a year over 40 years.
Denmark Township board members voted Wednesday night to the tax increase on residents.
This was the final step the township had to take to pay for the township to connect into the Saginaw city water supply.
Two years ago, board members voted to bring city water to the township after some residents asked for the option.
But at Wednesday night's meeting, many residents expressed their anger with officials when they found out they would be slapped with the high price tag.
Township board members agreed to pass the fee on to the residents in a majority vote.
