ISABELLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
Troopers from the Mount Pleasant State Police Post investigated a traffic crash involving a motorcycle vs. deer collision.
On Friday night, a 39-year-old Mount Pleasant man was riding his 2004 Harley Davidson Road King northbound on US-127 when it collided with a white-tailed deer.
The collision threw the man from the motorcycle and onto the roadway. Troopers said the rider was wearing a DOT approved helmet at the time of the crash, which authorities said proved to be a key factor in preventing more serious injury.
Police said the helmet sustained severe damage from the impact with the roadway. However, the man was treated by the Mount Pleasant Fire Department and MMR personnel on scene and transported to McLaren Hospital in Mount Pleasant for further treatment.
The man was subsequently transferred to another hospital for additional treatment.
