AAA: 1.4M Michigan residents plan July 4 travel

DEARBORN, Mich. (AP) -

AAA Michigan estimates that 1.4 million Michigan residents will travel on vacation during the Fourth of July holiday, up 16 percent from last year.

The Dearborn-based auto club announced the estimate on Tuesday. The holiday travel period runs from July 3-8.

Nationally, AAA projects 42.3 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more from home during the holiday period, up 4.9 percent from last year.

In Michigan, an estimated 87 percent of travelers will go by motor vehicle. Others plan to travel by airplane, bus or train.
