A Michigan man who committed murder at age 11 has been sentenced to five years of probation in a prison guard assault case.

Nathaniel Abraham pleaded guilty May 1 to attacking the guard at the end of 2010. The 26-year-old was sentenced Tuesday in Lenawee County Circuit Court.

Abraham already is serving a four-to-20-year sentence for drug possession.

According to the state Department of Corrections, Abraham's earliest release date on the drug conviction is in August. That could have been in jeopardy had Judge Timothy Pickard elected Tuesday to order Abraham to serve additional prison time in the assault case.

Abraham's lawyer, Sharon Clark Woodside, says her client is "grateful" for the judge's decision.

Abraham was convicted of murder in the 1997 fatal shooting of 18-year-old Ronnie Greene in Pontiac.
