SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Some Michigan residents are facing a hot day without electrical service to power air conditioners or fans.

Consumer Energy says that 3,470 customers are without power in Genesee and Saginaw Counties.

Affected customers are located in Montrose and Vienna Townships in Genesee County and Maple Grove Township in Saginaw County.

"While the cause of the transformer failure is not known at this time, crews from Flint and Jackson worked throughout the night to install a temporary substation," a news release issued by Consumers Energy read.

The CMS Energy Corp. unit was encouraging people -- especially the elderly and children -- to seek shelter Wednesday at cooling stations.

Customers within the following geographic boundaries will be without electric service until Wednesday afternoon:

  • Willard Road in Genesee County or Gary Road in Saginaw County to the north,
  • Frances Road in Genesee County or Johnstone Road in Saginaw County to the south,
  • Webster Road in Genesee County to the east,
  • and Lincoln Road in Saginaw County to the west.
