SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
A soccer tournament drawing thousands to Saginaw County has organizers hoping it will give the area a big boost, possibly bringing in $10 million.
The tournament included 220 teams from 13 states - all of which came to Saginaw County and greater Mid-Michigan.
Brad Wright drove in from Cleveland, OH to watch his daughter.
"It's a wonderful tournament, we've enjoyed the whole time, the weather has been great, not too hot. We've enjoyed the time in the area," Wright said.
It's the best of the best playing in the Youth Soccer Association Region II Tournament.
Wright's daughter, Alex, talked to us after her team won Sunday.
"I think this is the best competition that we had in a long time," Alex said.
Eight of her family members are in town to watch, taking up two hotel rooms and using a motor home too.
Families like the Wrights will bring in millions to the Great Lakes Bay Region.
Organizers also wanted to make sure everything went smooth on the field and on the road because with so many people in town it could cause a traffic jam.
"Traffic is flowing very well for the number of cars that we have coming through here," said Lt. John Pelkki with the Saginaw Township Police.
With 15,000 people in town traffic is heavy.
Mccarty Road is a one way, with westbound travel only.
Police and volunteers are directing drivers and helping out-of-town visitors find the complex.
The games continue until Wednesday, as the players try to make it to the final round.
Organizers said it's possible the tournament will return in the future.
