LUDINGTON, MI (AP) -

West Michigan authorities say a Ludington police officer who was shot and wounded while responding to a dispute between a husband and wife is expected to fully recover.

The husband, who also was shot and wounded, surrendered to police Tuesday night following a standoff in Ludington.

He was treated at a hospital and jailed.

Police Chief Mark Barnett says it was fortunate no one was seriously injured.

The officer, identified as Sgt. David Maltbie, was treated at a hospital.

Police say the husband opened fire with a shotgun on officers and Mason County sheriff's deputies after they arrived at the home Tuesday evening.

The officers returned fire and police say Maltbie and the husband were both struck in the exchange.

The wife escaped unharmed with police help.
