HURON COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

Huron County Sheriff's deputies were called to Sand Point in Caseville Township on Tuesday after three women called 911 when they witnessed a man remove his clothes on a beach.

Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson said the lone man anchored a powerboat off shore on the south side of Sand Point, not far from Sunset Boulevard, and walked ashore. Three area residents stated to police that they confronted the man with the assumption that he had some kind of boat trouble.

The man, who the women said appeared to be under the influence of alcohol, stated everything was OK and started talking about having a second home in the area. He also made references to never being ashore in that part of Sand Point before.

Police said the man questioned a 58-year-old female resident about if she lived in the area. She, her 34-year-old daughter and 62-year-old neighbor became suspicious of the individual and went into their houses. The women and daughter watched the man walk back toward his boat and witnessed him totally disrobe as he neared the waters edge. That upset them and they called 911.

A Sheriff's deputy arrived on scene and kept an eye on the man, who appeared to be drifting in his boat, about a half-mile offshore. Before other deputies arrived, the suspect departed the area toward Bay Port. A person matching the suspect's description was located about 15 minutes later by Fairhaven Police Chief Kevin Laming.

The suspect had made it ashore at the Bay Port Public Access Site and was loading his boat. Police said they ended up taking the man into custody, who they said was a 62-year-old man from Waterford. He was transported to the Huron County Jail and booked in on indecent exposure charges.

Hanson said he remained jailed until his blood-alcohol level was acceptably low enough to be released. The man's bond is $250 and a follow up investigation will be conducted.
