SAGINAW, MI (AP) -

The National Weather Service says hot and humid weather that could be hazardous is in the forecast for parts of Michigan through Saturday.

The weather service issued heat advisories for Thursday across southern and mid Michigan, where temperatures in the upper 90s were expected in places.

Officials urged caution, since the heat could be dangerous especially to the elderly and young children, as well as those who will be exposed to the heat all day.

In Saginaw and other parts of Mid-Michigan, hot temperatures are expected into the weekend.

"The heat will build across Mid Michigan today," said TV5 Meteorologist Catherine Bodak. "High temperatures are expected to soar into the middle and upper 90s with heat indices around 100 degrees. Be careful working and playing in the sun today! Temps will continue to be above normal through the weekend."

The weather service says thunderstorms also could break out at times. Air quality alerts also were issued.
