SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A fundraiser is planned for firefighter Steven Ortega. He is currently receiving treatment for a brain tumor and has no insurance.

A TV5 viewer organized the benefit after she watched a story about Ortega. Shantel Harris knows what he's going through, her brother is battling a similar brain tumor. Harris contacted TV5 and the station put her in contact with Ortega. She was so touched by his story she organized an event to raise money for him.

The benefit is July 1 from 2 until 6 p.m. at Stardust Lanes in Saginaw Township. Early check-in is recommended to reserve a lane. Tickets are $20 for adults and $12 for children under 12. The ticket price includes shoe rental and three hours of bowling.

Harris hopes her brother can meet Ortega at the fundraiser.

"So when I saw Steven's story we went through the same thing as far as no insurance and how we were going to cover the bill. We were able to get things taken care of so I wanted to reach out to Steven and share that with him," said Harris.

There will be food, music and a 50/50 raffle.
