SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM/AP) -

Saginaw police say officers fatally shot a knife-wielding man at a shopping center parking lot.

It happened in the Riverview Plaza early Sunday afternoon, located off Genesee Avenue in Saginaw. Police were responding to a call about a disturbance at the Mobile Gas Station across the street from the plaza.

Police say 49-year-old Milton Hall, of Saginaw, was shot multiple times and pronounced dead after being taken to an area hospital. Police say he made aggressive movements toward officers.

Police say they had no choice but to shoot him. However, some people who witnessed the Sunday shooting questioned the decision to use deadly force.

"They could have shot him in the leg, they could have tased, they could have let the dog go, but to shoot him?" said Tabitha Petty, who witnessed the shooting.

Police tell TV5 Hall was well known by law enforcement across Saginaw County. TV5 has also learned Hall was homeless.

The shooting is being investigated by Michigan State Police. Prosecutors were expected to review the case afterward.

No other injuries were reported.
