BAY COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -

A Bangor Township child has died after being discovered at the bottom of a swimming pool on Friday.

The Bay County Sheriff's Department said rescue crews were dispatched to 3422 Old Kawkawlin Rd. in Bangor Township around 7 p.m. and upon arrival, administered CPR to the 3-year-old boy.

Attempts to revive the boy continued as crews transported him to McLaren Bay Regional hospital - but were to no avail. The boy was later identified as Eric Jay Zimmer II.

A witness told deputies that the child was missing and after a brief search, was found at the bottom of the swimming pool in the back yard of the family home.

Authorities said autopsy results showed the boy's cause of death appeared to be accidental drowning, but that their investigation into the incident remains open.
