Families beat the heat waiting for Saginaw's fireworks show

SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

It's no joke - the weather is packing a sweaty punch.

As families waited for Saginaw's fireworks Wednesday night, water bottles were plentiful and families were taking precautions to keep their children safe.

"Oh man, it's horrible out here, it's super hot, super warm, just stay hydrated and having water fights all at the same time, it's a lot of fun," said Dustin Miller, who was out waiting for the fireworks with his family.

Parents made sure their children drank a lot of water as temperatures flirted with triple digits.  Water was also used in toys, like water guns, and ice was put in rags to cool body temperatures.

"Cool rags, we get some ice in it, wipe them on their head, to keep them cool," said April Buitron as she wiped her daughter's head with the cool cloth.

But one family said temperatures wouldn't stop them. Trinity Barrett, 2, was diagnosed with a stage three brain tumor last Christmas. Her mother, Teresa Castillo, said dealing with the heat is well worth it.

"I get to be here with her and you know, enjoy it, and I guess that's what's really special, she's doing OK, and we're happy she's here with us right now," Castillo said.

Families said that they beat the heat, and were happy they did, because they got to see a great Saginaw fireworks show.
