SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -

Police are investigating after a car drove into the Saginaw River.

The car went under the Court Street Bridge in Saginaw around 7 p.m. Saturday.

A witness who saw the incident said she was waiting at an intersection, when the car nearly collided with hers.

The car then made a U-turn and drove onto the grassy bank of the river.

She also said the driver almost ran over a bicyclist riding on a trail before plunging into the river.

Saginaw police said passing boaters helped pull the driver out. The driver was taken to a local hospital.

A dive team was also on the scene, checked the car and cleared it of any additional people inside.

There's no word on what caused the man to drive into the water.
