DETROIT, MI (AP) -
A newspaper says a 37-year-old former Wayne County employee is drawing an annual pension of $42,500 after just 15 years of work.
Nancy Olind worked in human resources for the county. The Detroit News (http://bit.ly/Nkwu1) says she took advantage of an early-retirement program offered last year by county Executive Robert Ficano.
Even Ficano's staff won't defend Olind's windfall. Spokeswoman June West says there should have been an age requirement.
Olind didn't respond to requests for comment from the News. The newspaper says she worked for 15 years but made payments to the retirement system to qualify herself for 20 years of service, a key threshold.
Ficano's office says the retirement plan has reduced the county payroll. Critics say county finances have been wrecked under Ficano.
