Carnel ChamberlainA 20-year-old man charged with abusing a 4-year-old boy, whose body was later found badly burned under a porch, will be back in court Friday.
Anthony Bennett is scheduled to appear for a preliminary examination in federal court in Bay City at 10 a.m. Friday.
Bennett is currently jailed without bond on a five-year felony count of assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a child younger than 16.
Carnel Chamberlain's body was found under the porch of a home located on the Saginaw Chippewa Indian reservation, a week after he went missing.
Currently Bennett is not facing any charges in connection with Carnel's disappearance or death.
Bennet and Carnel lived at the home with the child's mother Jaimee.
Carnel's family has scheduled a memorial service for the boy this coming Sunday, July 15, at the Soaring Eagle Casino concert hall beginning at 2 p.m. The tribal casino is near Mount Pleasant in Isabella County's Chippewa Township.
