KAWKAWLIN TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -
Bay County-based Michigan State Troopers were called to a three-car crash on M-13 near Beaver Road in Kawkawlin Township on Tuesday that left three people injured.
Troopers said once they arrived at the scene, their investigation revealed a 17-year-old Bay City man driving a 2003 Chevy Cavalier with three passengers was southbound on M-13 when the teen made an illegal left-hand turn onto Beaver Road. While making the illegal turn, the driver failed to yield to a 2002 Chevy Malibu being driven by a 69-year-old woman from Essexville.
Troopers said after the collision occurred, the Cavalier spun out of control and collided with a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix which was stopped on Beaver for a traffic light.
The teen and 69-year-old woman were taken to McLaren-Bay Regional Hospital for treatment and an injured 20-year-old man in the Cavalier was flown by helicopter to St. Mary's in Saginaw.
Police cited the 17-year-old for a traffic violation in regards to the illegal left turn. Authorities said everyone involved in the crashes was wearing seatbelts and alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
