FRANKENMUTH, MI (WNEM) -

The Frankenmuth Police department is investigating a complaint involving the theft and use of stolen credit cards.

Police said the theft occurred on June 23 after the cards were taken from employees while working at a local business. The cards were then later used for multiple purchases of gift cards in the Flint area by the suspects.

Police said video from the business shows five people believed to be connected to the theft. Authorities said it shows five African-American women of various ages arriving in a black Ford Taurus, and then leaving together in the same vehicle.

Police said the women walk into retail stores and distract a clerk while one of them takes credit cards out of the clerk's purse. Authorities said the women then make a purchase with the cards almost immediately, sometimes charging thousands of dollars at a time.

Detectives said the suspects also match the description from an earlier theft and use of stolen credit cards that are currently under investigation. The scheme first began in Frankenmuth in December and has happened about six times.

Frankenmuth police are asking for the public's assistance in identifying the suspects involved and anyone with information is asked to contact Det. Randy Flathau at 989-652-8371.
