BAD AXE, MI (WNEM) -
A Bad Axe man was arrested on Thursday after a homeowner caught him allegedly swimming in a privately owned pool - buck naked.
The man's actions could be understandable due to the extreme heat our region has experienced over the last two weeks, but in both incidents, police said he didn't know the pool's owners and chose to dive in only wearing his birthday suit.
The first incident was reported to police on July 3 when a homeowner on W. South Street returned home from vacation and was notified by a neighbor that a man was seen swimming naked in his pool on June 30. The neighbor told police he didn't call authorities because he was not sure if the man was a friend of the homeowner. The witness told police the naked man got out of the pool and ran to a red Pontiac Grand Am that was parked on the road.
The second incident was reported Thursday around 5 p.m. when a naked man was seen swimming in a neighbor's pool. The complainant stated that he was watching the neighbor's house while they were away on vacation. The caller said he and his wife confronted the naked man and asked him why he was in the pool. The man got out of the pool and apologized, grabbed a towel and left the yard. The caller stayed on the phone with 911 and continued to give information about the naked man, who walked to the area of George E. Greene school and got into a red Grand Am.
That's when police stopped the car and confronted the formerly naked man. Police said he is a 29-year-old Bad Axe resident who at the time of the stop was wearing a black T-shirt and a towel around his waist. Officers also saw a pair of pants on the passenger-side seat and no swimming suit was found in the car.
The man was taken to the Bad Axe Police department and questioned about the two incidents, where he admitted to swimming naked in the pools and that he didn't know the homeowners.
Police said they have forwarded the case to the Huron County Prosecutor's office for possible formal charges.
