SAGINAW TOWNSHIP, MI (WNEM) -

Police responded to a crash involving an ambulance in Saginaw Township on Monday afternoon.

Saginaw County 911 paged out that an MMR ambulance was involved in the accident around 4 p.m. A viewer called to state that the MMR vehicle was running through traffic lights at State Street and Center Road when it was struck.

Later, police at the scene told TV5 the driver of a black Pontiac Grand Prix slammed into the ambulance while it was going to an emergency call.

The force of the crash was such that the ambulance was flipped onto its side. Another viewer said the driver of the ambulance was able to get out of the rig. The driver of the car suffered minor injuries and is expected to fully recover.

State Street and Center were closed at that intersection for a short time while the scene was cleared. The intersection has since reopened.
