SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
A day of triple-digit temperatures is forecasted for much of Michigan, leading the National Weather Service to issue an excessive heat warning for several local counties.
The National Weather Service says it expects cooler air to push into Michigan on Wednesday, but not before a day of highs well above 100 degrees.
Temperatures today are expected to reach 100 degrees or higher in much of the TV5 viewing area, with heat indices ranging from 105-110.
"Expect very hot and muggy conditions," TV5 meteorologist Catherine Bodak said. "Heat is the number one weather-related killer in the U.S. so be careful today."
Excessive heat warnings are in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. in the following counties: Bay, Genesee, Midland, Saginaw, Sanilac, Shiawassee and Tuscola.
Heat advisories are in effect for Arenac, Gladwin, Gratiot, Huron and Isabella counties, as well.
Some Detroit schools and Flint summer programs are also calling off classes.
With the possibility of record breaking temps, heat related illnesses -- such as heat stroke, heat exhaustion and dehydration will be possible.

The weather service says people should take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside today. They advise people should wear light weight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water to reduce risk during outdoor to work.
Cooler air is expected to push into Michigan tomorrow, with highs reaching 84 on Wednesday and 80 on Thursday.
"Tomorrow, we will have cooler temps, lower humidity and comfortable sleeping weather as high pressure and a more seasonable air mass for mid-July takes control," Bodak said. "Temps will start to trend upward over the weekend with some more chances of some much needed rain for the start of next week."
