Michigan jobless rate rises 0.1 percentage points

The state says Michigan's jobless rate rose 0.1 percentage points in June, the second consecutive monthly increase after a yearlong decline.

Michigan said Wednesday that June's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate stood at 8.6 percent, compared with April's 8.5 percent.

The Michigan jobless rate in June was 2 percentage points below the state's June 2011 rate of 10.6 percent. The national jobless rate decreased by 0.9 percentage points over that period.

The state's unemployment rate in June was 0.4 percentage points above the national rate of 8.2 percent.

The state Department of Technology, Management and Budget says total employment declined statewide by 8,000 in June, while the number of unemployed increased by 7,000.
