LANSING, MI (AP) -
Environmental activists have staged a "human oil spill" at the Michigan Capitol to protest plans to replace and expand a pipeline that fouled the Kalamazoo River two years ago.
About 30 people dressed in black sprawled out on the Capitol rotunda floor Wednesday.
The protest was planned by a group called "We are the Kalamazoo."
Canada-based Enbridge Inc. owns the pipeline that runs from Griffith, IN. to Sarnia, Ontario.
The July 2010 spill dumped about 843,000 gallons of heavy crude into the Kalamazoo and a tributary creek, fouling more than 35 miles of waterways and wetlands.
Enbridge says it plans to replace the line and says that will make it more structurally sound, as well as increasing capacity.
