FLUSHING, MI (WNEM) -
Flushing police are investigating after a 14-month-old girl drowned while playing with siblings near the family swimming pool.
First responders were notified around 5:30 p.m. Friday and called to an address on Primrose in the city.
Authorities said the girl was playing with five other brothers and sisters and when their mother called them inside, the 14-month-old was not with the other siblings. That's when she was found in the in-ground pool.
The Flushing Police Chief, Mark Hoornstra, told MLIVE that an off-duty firefighter living not far from the scene heard the commotion and responded to the scene. Hoornstra said the man performed CPR until EMS crews got to the scene. The girl was pronounced dead a short time later.
Police said they are continuing to investigate the drowning and are awaiting autopsy results. Authorities have not identified the family.
