Bay County Fair could be in jeopardy

Posted: Updated:
BAY CITY, MI (WNEM) -

A county fair is in jeopardy, rocked by an embezzlement scam and children could end up paying the price.

Former Bay County Fair President Michael Coyer pleaded guilty to stealing more than $4,000 from the organization.

Now, the future of the fair is uncertain.

The fair partners with the local 4-H club and dozens of kids raise their animals and show them off at the fair.

For the first time in history, the fair isn't paying out cash prizes for the kids who raise the best livestock.

It is also possible that the fair won't be held next year, which would cost the 4-H a lot of exposure.

The Bay County Fair runs from Aug. 7-11.
