SAGINAW COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
Law enforcement, community and business leaders discussed the recent violence in Saginaw.
A shooting Thursday afternoon marks six days in a row that someone has been shot in the city.
Mary Lou Benecke, chairman of the Saginaw County Chamber of Commerce, addressed the public safety meeting. She said a systematic approach is needed to address the violence.
"I believe that we get at a solution by having all the stakeholders at the table, by having an environment of trust and accountability," said Benecke.
Benecke wants to create a proposal to bring before the executive committee of the chamber. She thinks a small group of people could put an action plan in place to curb the shootings and other crime.
Several area police chiefs also attended the meeting.
"I know a lot of people are fed up with the crime and now we need to turn that into action so hoping to get a lot of input from the community," said Saginaw Police Chief Brian Lipe.
