TUSCOLA COUNTY, MI (WNEM) -
The Tuscola County Sheriff's department is warning parents in the Akron area about an incident involving a child being approached by a man asking for directions.
The sheriff said a 12-year-old girl reported that the man had asked her for directions on three separate occasions in several months. The girl told police the man is driving a different vehicle every time he makes an appearance.
Authorities said the first time he had an interaction with the girl he was driving a white pickup truck, the second time it was a white Ford Fusion type of vehicle and the last time it was an older white colored van. Police said that during this last event, the man did not speak to the girl, only drove past her.
The sheriff's office said the man is described as white, in his mid-30s with black hair and brown eyes, and sporting a scruffy beard.
According to a conversation on a Thumb Yard Sale Facebook page, parents are talking about the incidents and warning each other about the man. One poster stated the man is driving a full-size pickup truck and goes from Owendale to Gagetown asking young girls for direction to other towns.
The parent said the man was wearing a ball cap and glasses during the incidents.
