SAGINAW, MI (WNEM) -
If you haven't filled up in a few days, you are in for a shock at the pump, because gas prices have skyrocketed.
Earlier this week, drivers were paying about $3.45 at the pump only to see that price jump on Wednesday to $3.79. Now drivers report seeing the price at $3.95 across mid-Michigan - a 50 cent jump in just 48 hours.
Patrick DeHaan at Gasbuddy.com says the increase in gas prices is regional, and lucky us, we're getting hit the hardest.
The reason why is due to a pipeline that transport oil from Canada to Chicago that is shut down, which means less oil is being turned into gasoline.
On top of that, three Midwest refineries are having issues.
The bottom line is drivers here in mid-Michigan are going to pay more to fill up for a while. DeHaan says these gas prices are temporary, but may last for a couple of weeks.
The Detroit Free Press is reporting that several gas stations in the southeastern part of Detroit are currently selling fuel at $4.29 per gallon, with another dozen selling gas at $4.19.
