Search for missing Troy man leads police to Genesee County

GENESEE COUNTY, MI (WNEM/AP) -

Crews are desperately searching right now for the body of a man who's hasn't been seen in more than week.

Helicopters were heard making the rounds overhead as police searched in Montrose Township. They searched farm fields and a river for 55-year-old Patrick Mikes Sr. Police think his son may have dumped his body in Montrose Township.

Searchers, including State Police, Troy Police, the Genesee County Sheriff's deputies and volunteer firefighters are concentrating their efforts at McKinley and Lake roads, and cadaver dogs are assisting.

Authorities say they believe the Troy man was killed in his basement and have obtained video footage of his now jailed son buying cleaning supplies on the last day the father was seen.

Troy Police Capt. Robert Redmond told reporters Thursday that Mikes Sr. wouldn't have taken a bicycle ride without his helmet and riding shoes, both found in the home. His sons said he left on his bike last Friday when they reported him missing two days later. The photo on the right shows what Mikes Sr.'s bike looks like.

Twenty-one-year-old Patrick Mikes Jr. remains jailed after being charged with using credit cards belonging to his 16-year-old brother.

Mikes Jr. hasn't been charged with his father's disappearance but police consider him a suspect. His attorney says there's no evidence that Mikes Jr. played a role.

WNEM TV5 will update this story with the latest in the search for Patrick Mikes Sr. as information comes into our newsroom.
