FLINT, MI (WNEM) -

The Olympic Games in London have reached their halfway point and right now a local Olympian is a step closer to bringing home a medal.

Flint's Claressa Shields won her first fight of the games on Monday morning by defeating Anna Laurell of Sweden, 18 to 14 in four rounds.

Shields now moves onto the semi-finals where she will take on Marina Volnova of Kazakhstan.

If you missed the bout this morning, NBC will air again this evening.

Shields is a 17-year-old soon-to-be senior at Flint Northwestern High School. She beat the top ranked boxer in the world, Mary Spencer, at the Continental American Games in April.
