Joshua Davenport (LVMPD)
LAS VEGAS (FOX5) -
A Las Vegas man faces multiple charges of sexual assault with a girl under the age of 14 after being accused of holding her at gunpoint and forcing her to engage in sexual acts.
Joshua Davenport, 24, was arrested on Aug. 4 after a girl who had been missing for hours was seen leaving his apartment on W. Washington Street near U.S. 95.
According to an arrest report, the girl's mother reported her daughter missing after she returned from a trip to the bank. The daughter previously told her she had been approached by a bald man with tattoos asking for a lighter and cigarettes.
A neighbor told police he had seen the girl with the man who was identified as Davenport. Police were directed to a truck used by the suspect and the apartment where he lives.
Police knocked on the apartment's door but there was no response and officers left.
The girl's family independently set up a perimeter outside the apartment where the minor left crying and shaking, police said. Shortly after, police were called to the apartment complex and commanded Davenport through a loud speaker to get out.
He was arrested and transported to Las Vegas Metro police headquarters.
In an interview with police, the girl told officers she was going to do laundry at the apartment complex laundromat after her mother left. At the laundry, she encountered the same bald man with tattoos. This time, though, the man grabbed her by the neck and pointed a gun threatening to shoot her, according to the arrest report.
He told her that they were going to his place and if she screamed, she would kill her, she told police.
The girl said she was forced to remove her clothes and put on another set of clothing, take a number of pills and drink from a bottle of tequila. She told officers the man had tattoos of a devil face on top of his head and a swastika on his stomach.
The man forced her to watch some movies in the living area. She attempted an escape when she saw he was asleep but was stopped when he awoke and pointed a gun at her. She was also ordered to get in a backroom when knocking occurred at the apartment.
She was then ordered to go into a bedroom with the man where he committed the alleged assault.
After the man fell asleep, the girl was able to leave the residence.
In an interview with detectives, Davenport told police he had invited the girl to his place after noticing he had a fight with her boyfriend. He told police the girl and the boyfriend came to the apartment and went to a backroom for 45 minutes while he was in the living room.
He told police the girl wished to stay. He denied any sexual contact with the girl and any forced abduction by gunpoint.
Police were able to recover pills and a plastic bag containing the victim's clothing at Davenport's apartment.
Davenport was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on four counts of sexual assault with a victim under 14; four counts of sexual assault with a deadly weapon; battery with intent to commit sexual assault; lewdness with a minor; and kidnapping.
